Investing in Small Businesses
Equity in entrepreneurship
Black-owned businesses are a growth engine for the economy and community, yet they continue to face challenges in accessing funding and opportunities to grow. For many, the unavailability of business capital leads to a greater reliance on credit cards and personal funds. This, in turn, impacts one's credit and the ability to access business capital in the future.
Stackwell and Prudential Financial made $1M available to support investment access, financial education, and business development training for 200 small business owners and entrepreneurs in the Metro-Detroit area.
Investing in the HBCU community in NOLA
The power of prosperity
Entergy and Stackwell are working together to equip HBCU students in New Orleans with the knowledge, tools and resources to build generational wealth, which is a foundation for economic stability, access to opportunity and long-term prosperity.
The program aims to remove barriers to academic success by offering free access to financial support and resources. Entergy invested more than $700,000 in the pilot program to provide seed investment to start 1,200 freshmen on their investing journeys.
Investing in Moving Families Forward
Family financial stability & building generational wealth
The Reaching Investment Success for Everyone (RISE) Investment Program grants $25,000 in seed investment funding to the heads of ALICE households participating in the United Way of Southeast Louisiana’s Moving Families Forward program.
The RISE Investment Program is designed to specifically address the ongoing financial hardships experienced by Asset Limited, Income Constrained, Employed (ALICE) households in the Jefferson, Orleans, Plaquemines, St. Bernard, St. Tammany, Tangipahoa and Washington parishes of Louisiana.
Investing in the Future
Student investment program
Stackwell and Prudential Financial invested $1M to provide financial wellness education and to seed the Stackwell investment accounts of 500 participating students attending Historically Black Colleges and Universities (HBCUs) and Minority Serving Institutions (MSIs) in the Student Freedom Initiative network.
This program helps to address college affordability and better positions students and their families to protect against financial risk and increase their financial preparedness post-graduation.
Investing in Local Communities
Local communities like Detroit, Minneapolis, New Orleans, and Washington DC have large Black communities that are among the most impacted by the racial wealth gap.
Stackwell partnered with teams in the NBA and WNBA (Detroit Pistons, Minnesota Timberwolves, Minnesota Lynx, New Orleans Pelicans, Washington Mystics, Washington Wizards) in multi-year engagements that increase investment access, education through community-based programming, open over 3,500 new Stackwell accounts, and contribute over $250,000 back into their communities in the form of seed capital, small business financing, scholarships, and other financial resources.
